Pierre Omidyar

Pierre Omidyar, an entrepreneur and philanthropist, founded eBay in 1995, aiming to foster open markets and empower individuals through technology. His vision helped millions worldwide connect and create economic opportunities. As a philanthropist, Pierre supports causes spanning economic development, human rights, and government accountability through The Omidyar Group, having donated over $3 billion to date. In recognition of their contributions, he and his wife Pam received the Carnegie Medal of Philanthropy in 2011. He also founded First Look Media, supporting independent voices, and Honolulu Civil Beat, a local news outlet in Hawaii. Pierre remains involved with the Santa Fe Institute, Punahou School, and is Director Emeritus of eBay’s board.
