Pieter Abbeel

Pieter Abbeel is a professor at UC Berkeley, where he directs the Robot Learning Lab. He also co-directs the Berkeley AI Research (BAIR) Lab and co-founded companies like Covariant.AI and Gradescope. His work focuses on applying machine learning techniques to robotics, including apprenticeship learning, reinforcement learning, and meta-learning, enabling robots to acquire skills through interaction and observation. His robots have demonstrated abilities ranging from helicopter aerobatics to robotic manipulation and laundry organization. Pieter is also an advisor to OpenAI and serves as an investment partner at AIx Ventures.
